BRIAM

British Advisory Mission – BRIAM was established in September 1961 to advise the Diem government on a counterinsurgency strategy. Headed by Sir Robert Thompson, a veteran of the Malayan Emergency, the group submitted a plan to clear the Viet Cong from the Mekong Delta and to secure the population through the creation of Strategic Hamlets.
