A precursor of the CIA, the Office of Strategic Services was formed during WWII to collect and analyze strategic information. During Japan’s occupation of Indochina the OSS supplied Ho Chi Minh with weapons in return for his assitance in rescuing downed American pilots and delivering intelligence about Japanese Forces.
