The lightweight K-2B flight suit was made of cotton and was not fire retardant, unlike the Orange and Khaki summer coveralls. Instead it was treated with a Borax solution in-country to ensure aircrew were fire protected. The suits would have to be regularly retreated with Borax to guarantee ongoing protection.
