Defense Supply Center – When the
Defense Supply Agency began operations in 1962 it controlled eight specialist supply centers:
- Defense Clothing & Textile Supply Center, Philadelphia
- Defense Construction Supply Center, Columbus, Ohio
- Defense General Supply Center, Richmond, Va
- Defense Medical Supply Center, Brooklyn, New York
- Defense Petroleum Supply Center, Washington, D.C.
- Defense Subsistence Supply Center, Chicago, Ill
- Defense Traffic Management Service, Washington, D.C.
- Defense Logistics Services Center, Washington, D.C.
Each center was responsible for procurement, distribution, inventory management and accounting.
