AATTV

Australian Army Training Team Vietnam – The AATTV was a small elite unit of advisors that trained ARVN troops and operated with U.S. Special Forces as part of the CIDG program. The AATTV was the first Australian unit to arrive in Vietnam (July 1962), the last to leave (December 1972) and their most decorated unit of the war.

Four AATTV advisors were awarded the Victoria Cross, Britain and the Commonwealth’s highest award for gallantry, during the Vietnam War:
  • Maj. Peter Badcoe (posthumous award)
  • WO-2 Keith Payne
  • WO-2 Ray Simpson
  • WO-2 Kevin Wheatley (posthumous award)
