101st Airborne Division

The 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) operated in all four military regions of Vietnam during the war. The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 101st Division on 23rd May 1923 and was designated for the 101st Airborne Division on 10th September 1968. The eagle design represented “Old Abe”, the eagle carried into combat during the Civil War by the 8th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment.1
