The first 2-quart canteen cover sent to Vietnam was produced by the International Latex Corporation and was effectively a nylon version of their 1945 design with an added belt loop. It also featured a single lift-the-dot fastener and a 2-inch wide webbing reinforcement strip across the back. Subsequent to testing by Special Forces the design was modified to have a 1-inch rather than a 2-inch wide reinforcement strip. The modified cover was standardized in 1963.
