The 2nd version of the M1943 intrenching shovel carrier was introduced in 1944 and improved upon the original design with three rows of eyelets on the back that allowed the double-hook’' position to be adjusted. The top two eyelets were used when attaching the carrier to a field pack or haversack; the middle eyelets were employed when affixing it to a belt and the lower eyelets for hanging the carrier from a rucksack.

Like its predecessor the sides were reinforced with eight rivets and a lift-the-dot fastener secured the flap. The M1943 carrier and was mainly used by the Marine Corps in Vietnam.
